We had a wonderful time last week volunteering at our Charity of the Quarter, Flatirons Habitat for Humanity. We helped out at one of their Boulder communities in Palo Park. It was a beautiful day full of comradery, team-building, learning new skills and helping our community. We’re so proud of our team! They jumped into every task assigned with tireless effort, endless energy and a willingness to learn.   And talk about a bunch of fun people who love to laugh and enjoy each other.

We were also very impressed with Molly (our crew leader from Habitat for Humanity) and Jorge and Zach with AmeriCorps. They were such fun people with amazing attitudes and a gift of patience and teaching others. They made the whole volunteer experience very enjoyable!

We started the day by assisting with site preparation for the upcoming arrival, receipt and installation of the roof rafters. Half of our team then shifted to constructing and leveling scaffolding around the perimeter of the property in preparation of window and siding installation.  The remainder of our team worked on carpentry work on the interior second level by completing the top plate framing and placement of the support posts to ready the home for the roof rafters. We learned so much!

What is the mission and purpose of Habitat for Humanity? They partner with the people in our community – and across the world – to help them build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. With the support of volunteers, partners, and donors, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength, stability, and independence they need to build better lives for themselves and for their families. We encourage you to learn more about this amazing charity.

Our agency has proudly selected Flatirons Habitat for Humanity as our Charity of the Quarter for April, May and June. Read more about what this means in our earlier blog post.  Thank you, Flatirons Habitat, for making a difference in our community!
